Woman denied hospital admission due to caste in Uttar Pradesh, gives birth on roadside

Lucknow: An inhumanly incident took place in which a woman in labour was denied hospital admission after learning about her caste in Uttar Pradesh. She belonged to Dalit Mushar community.
The incident took place on Tuesday night when the woman went into labour, was taken to hospital but didn’t get admission there. Later when her condition worsened and she had no option but to give birth to her child on roadside.
The delivery of the baby was done with the help of relatives with privacy being given with a help of a bedsheet. Following the delivery, the mother and the baby were taken to the hospital and are in a healthy condition.
The video of the incident has also been surfaced on the internet and has gone viral.

The matter has reached the Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak and is currently under inquiry.
During the inquiry medical negligence was reported and doctor who was accountable for the emergency medical services was dismissed. Many others from the alleged hospital faced consequences in this matter.
The allegation that caste was the reason for the denial was made by the woman’s family; it should therefore be presented as an allegation rather than an established fact.
Further investigation into this matter is underway.
