Since Ministers need to be in Parliament within six months to continue in the Cabinet, he had to step down as his Rajya Sabha term ended on Friday.
Kurian was inducted into the Council of Ministers in the 2024 Modi government, representing efforts to reach out to the Christian communities and was also instrumental in the implementation of a number of projects.
His resignation will now lead to discussions about potential changes in the cabinet.
