Earthquake of magnitude 5.9 strikes Afghanistan, tremors felt in Kashmir and Delhi-NCR

New Delhi: A magnitude 5.9 earthquake measured on Richter scale hit Afghanistan- Tajikistan border region on Saturday afternoon. The tremors were felt across parts of northern India in Kashmir and Delhi-NCR.

According to the National centre for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake occurred at 12.17 PM IST at a depth of 86km beneath the surface. The epicentre was located in the Afghanistan – Tajikistan border area.

Delhi- NCR and Kashmir valley also felt mild to moderate tremors. This created a panic among the residents.

No immediate reports of major damage or casualties have been reported.
