New Delhi: Four people have lost their lives after United States military carried out a strike on a suspected drug-smuggling boat in the Caribbean Sea yesterday.
The strike was carried out by the Joint Task Force Western Hemisphere under the direction of US Southern Command, as per reports.
This strike was a part of a campaign launched by President Donald Trump against alleged drug-trafficking groups in Latin America.
The people killed in the strike are described as “narco-terrorists”. It is being said by the military that intelligence indicated that the vessel was involved in narcotics trafficking.

This brings the death tally of people being killed in strikes due to being involved in suspected drug-trafficking to at least 235 people. The number of strikes that have been carried out in the Caribbean Sea and eastern Pacific Ocean for this campaign is around 70.
The administration has justified the military activity as an effort to destroy drug-smuggling pathways into the US. US officials have characterized the campaign as an armed conflict with cartels and have lobbied for better cooperation from Latin American countries.
This strike comes as Washington continues to expand the US-led crusade against alleged drug trafficking groups in the region, boosting the US military’s involvement in operations targeting suspected drug routes.
