Shooting near US Salt Lake City church, leaves 2 dead, several injured

Salt Lake City(US): Atleast two people were killed and six others were injured in a shooting outside a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints meetinghouse in Salt Lake City in US on Wednesday evening.

The attack took place around 7:30 pm in the parking lot at the vicinity of 700 North at the Redwood road as a funeral ceremony was going on in the church. Police claimed that a dispute led to the shooting and then the suspects ran away.

The police confirmed that eight victims in the attack, of which two were killed and six others sustained injuries. Those injured were transported to hospitals with at least three of them were reported to be in critical condition. There were victims who came to medical centers in personal cars and those were not even locked out by the emergency workers.

No arrests were made yet. Police are yet to decide whether there were one or more suspects. This was followed by a massive police operation and the road Redwood was shut down a couple of hours to enable the investigators to have time to gather evidence and search the surrounding areas.

The investigation is being aided by law enforcement agencies such as federal agencies. According to the authorities, the shooting was not random or a religious target at this point.

The investigation is still going on with police urging anyone that has any information, video footage or eyewitness accounts to report to the police.
