New Delhi: A tanker was attacked with two explosive devices in the Strait of Hormuz, triggering a fire in its engine room and temporarily disabling the vessel, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported on Friday, October 30.

According to reports, the incident took place on Thursday, around 25 nautical miles northeast of Khasab in Oman.

A smaller vessel reportedly approached the tanker and attached two explosive devices to its hull above the waterline before moving away. The subsequent explosions sparked a fire in the engine room.

The fire has since been extinguished, and all crew members have been reported safe.

The tanker, which was temporarily unable to operate following the explosions, has resumed its journey towards its next port of call. Also reported no environmental impact from the incident.

The identity of those responsible for the attack remains unknown, and no group has officially claimed responsibility. Maritime authorities have advised vessels operating in the region to remain cautious and report suspicious activity.

The incident comes amid repeated attacks on commercial vessels in and around the Strait of Hormuz since the outbreak of the US-Iran conflict in February 2026.

The strategic waterway is a major global route for oil and gas shipments, making any disruption a concern for international energy markets and maritime trade.
