Bhubaneswar: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president and former Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has strongly criticised the state government and police over the alleged attack on BJD leader and former Dharmasala MLA Pranab Balabantaray.

Taking to his official X handle, Patnaik termed the alleged attack on Balabantaray at Madhupurgarh under Jenapur police limits as “highly condemnable”. He expressed concern over a public representative allegedly being attacked in the presence of police.

Patnaik questioned the prevailing law and order situation in the state, asking who was emboldening criminals to carry out such acts. He also asked whether Odisha was witnessing the rule of law or “Gundaraj”.

The BJD president alleged that public representatives as well as ordinary citizens were becoming increasingly unsafe under the present government. He further claimed that similar incidents were being reported repeatedly from Dharmasala and other parts of the state and questioned the government’s response to them.

Patnaik also questioned why exemplary action was not being taken against those involved in such alleged criminal activities.

He said the people of Odisha were watching the developments closely and would respond to what he described as “anarchy and misgovernance”.
