Rashmi Shukla, Maharashtra’s first woman DGP retires after 37.5 years of service

Mumbai: Maharashtra’s first woman Director-General of Police(DGP), Rashmi Shukla retires after her 37 and a half years of service in Indian Police Service (IPS). A 1988 batch IPS officer, she was offerred a ceremonial guard of honour at the Naigaon Police Ground in Mumbai today.

Rashmi Shukla created history by commanding the Maharashtra Police as the DGP. During her stint as a cop, she faced difficulties as she was once alleged of phone-tapping. However, later the charge was dropped as administration changed. She was also accused by the opposition parties during assembly elections raising concerns regarding her impartiality due to which she was transferred but she returned once the BJP-led government came to power.

Shukla at her farewell, expressed pride in serving the Maharashtra Police and ensuring stability in law and order for the last two years highlighting that key festivals and elections were smoothly conducted in her supervision.

She also stated attributing the achievements to the collective efforts of the police force.

Senior IPS officer Sadanand Date has been appointed the new state Director General of Police (DGP). Hailed as a 26/11 hero, Date earlier served as the Director General of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and was recently repatriated to the Maharashtra cadre.
