Odisha’s BJD to abstain from voting in Vice President polls

Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) of Odisha will reportedly abstain from voting in the upcoming Vice President polls that has been scheduled for tomorrow, the 9th September, 2025.

As per reports, BJD Party Supremo and former Odisha Chief Minister, who is in Delhi now has reportedly decided that the party will abstain from voting tomorrow. It is to be noted that a meeting had been held in Naveen Nivas in Odisha recently where many senior members of the party were present.

CP Radhakrishnan has been nominated by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He’s currently the Governor of Maharashtra and has a strong RSS background. CP Radhakrishnan is a 68-year-old leader from Tamil Nadu, with experience as Governor of Jharkhand and Lok Sabha MP from Coimbatore.

On the other hand, B Sudershan Reddy has been nominated by the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA bloc), led by the Congress party. He’s a former Supreme Court judge, known for landmark judgments. B Sudershan Reddy is a 79-year-old jurist from Telangana. He retired from Supreme Court judge, and Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court.

The Vice President election is scheduled for September 9, 2025, with voting by Members of Parliament (Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha) using the Single Transferable Vote system
