Indian techie shot dead by US cops after scuffle with roommate, family seeks help

New-Delhi: A 29-year-old Indian techie was shot dead by the cops in the Santa Clara, California after a reported scuffle with his room-mate.

The deceased has been identified as Mohammed Nizamuddin. He hailed from Telangana’s Mahabubnagar district. He was a software professional in California. He had gone to the US in 2016 for higher education at Florida college. He later a joined a company and moved to California after being promoted.

The incident took place on September 3 after an altercation reportedly broke out between Indian techie Nizamuddin and his roommate. According to Santa Clara Police, officers responded to a call around 6:18 am and found the suspect armed with a knife, allegedly threatening his roommate. He was immediately rushed to the hospital, but Nizamuddin succumbed to his injuries.

His father Mohammed Hasnuddin has requested the central government to help bring his son’s mortal remains back to his home. In a letter to external affairs minister S Jaishankar, he said, “Today morning, I came to know he (Nizamuddin) was shot dead by Santa Clara Police and his mortal remains are in some hospital in Santa Clara, California. I do not know the actual reasons why police shot him dead.”

Amjed Ullah Khan, spokesperson of the Majlis Bachao Tahreek (MBT), shared the family’s appeal with the media and urged the government to intervene.
