Maoist- Security Forces Encounter In Kandhamal: Top Maoist Leader Ganesh Uikey Among Four Killed

Kandhamal: Four Maoists including top leader, Ganesh Uikey (69) were killed during a joint anti-Naxal operation in Odisha’s Kandhamal on Thursday.

Ganesh Uikey, senior central committee member of CPI (Maoist), carrying a bounty of Rs 1.1 crore on his head and was considered one of the top Maoist operatives active in Odisha and neighbouring regions.

The encounter occurred on Wednesday night in Gumma forest, Belghar police station area, following a tip-off that led to a joint combing operation by the CRPF, and police and  SOG (Special Operation Group) of Odisha Police.

The security forces seized a revolver, a 303 rifle, and a walkie-talkie set from the scene.

The identities of the remaining three other Maoists are yet to be ascertained.

On December 23, around 22 Maoists carrying cumulative rewards exceeding Rs 2 crore surrendered before the Odisha Police.
