Nabarangpur: In an unfortunate yet shocking incident, a woman allegedly attacked a Magistrate, an Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) inside Jharigaon JMFC (Judicial Magistrate First Class) court in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district on Saturday.
According to reports, a case involving dowry-related harassment and domestic violence filed by a woman named Sunamati Majhi was pending before the court, and the recording of her testimony had concluded just a few days earlier.
On Saturday afternoon, Majhi arrived at the court premises and insisted on meeting Magistrate Smita Lakra. When staff present at the scene suggested that she first meet with Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) Pradeep Patnaik, the woman suddenly became agitated; she pulled an iron rod from her bag and launched a surprise attack on APP.

It is reported that when Magistrate Lakra stepped forward to intervene, the woman assaulted the judge as well; she also attacked and injured a security personnel, Minaketan Gantayat, who had rushed there to bring the situation under control.
As the Assistant Public Prosecutor sustained serious injuries on his head, he was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, the incident has raised serious questions regarding the security arrangements at the court, as it remains unclear how a woman managed to enter such a highly secure premise carrying an iron rod. The local Bar Association has strongly condemned the incident and demanded strict legal action against the woman responsible.
