During the funeral of former President Jimmy Carter, it seems many prominent political figures like Vice President Kamala Harris and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton were giving President-elect Donald Trump the side-eye... well, everyone except former President Barack Obama.

In fact, Trump and Obama seemed to be getting along quite swimmingly as cameras repeatedly captured the political rivals sharing words and even a laugh together. Given the history of political turmoil between these two, seeing Obama crack a smile was the last thing America expected. And boy did the internet have a lot to say about it.

On X user, @real_rho, wrote “To see Obama and trump chatting it up like this is crazy cause what ya talkin bout.”

Many online, like user @candice_counsel, praised Obama for having “wayyyy more class” than most. And @so_inlove09 agreed saying “Yeah, he does. Because my ignore game is STRONG!”

Another user joked that Obama and Trump were “the same shade.” @thedigitaldash_ continued stressing how “unserious” the whole country is.

User @TuaHennehill said “Trump and Obama convo needs a hot mic.” And they are absolutely right! And while everyone is trying to figure out what the two presidents could possibly be saying to each other, one X user said they had a pretty solid idea about how their convo went:

Other users called out Trump for suddenly being friendly with Obama after years of spreading false birth rumors and spewing racially charged lies about the Black president. User @Meme_Hayess wrote Trump “can’t stop smiling and giggling in his face thirsty ass.”

It turns out, the Carter funeral seating arrangement was slightly off because former First Lady Michelle Obama didn’t show up, which moved Obama’s seat directly next to Trump’s.

One user, @mistergeezy, posted a meme of the first lady saying she didn’t come to the funeral on purpose.

It seems Michelle missed out on a banter-filled event! @MUSICANDBUILDS even called the whole exchange “Political theater.”

Let’s not forget just a few months ago, Obama was cracking jokes about Trump at the Democratic National Convention. And Trump even called Obama “a real jerk” at one of his rallies.

@SabbySabs2 reminded everyone that while Americans “actually cut off family and friends for these two parties,” Trump and Obama remain a part of “one big club” that regular people just aren’t invited to.

But maybe Trump and Obama getting along is the real definition of America. Despite their differences, these two men can put everything aside for one moment to honor a prolific man, President Carter.

Even then so, X user @darleneturner53 joked that Obama secretly still wanted to put hands on Trump, and can we even blame him?!
