Yemen, March 16: The United States planes carried out air strikes on Houthi rebels in Yemen. The group had recently threatened to resume attacks on ships linked to Israel in the Red Sea.

The US President, Donald Trump, said the strikes were in reaction to Houthi attacks on shipping routes, which have caused significant damage and endangered lives.

According to Houthi officials, at least 15 people were killed and nine others injured in the strikes, local media reported. Explosions were reported in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, and the northern province of Saada, a stronghold for the Houthis.

The Houthis have been targeting ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden since November 2023, sinking two vessels, seizing another, and killing four crew members. They claim their actions are in support of Palestinians in Gaza.
