Delhi BJP stages protest against Rahul Gandhi - Greater Kashmir

New Delhi, Sep 20: The Delhi BJP’s OBC wing held a protest near the Congress headquarters here on Friday against Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi’s alleged remark on reservation during his US visit.

The protest march was led by Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva and Members of Parliament Ramvir Singh Bidhuri and Kamaljeet Sehrawat.

The protesters were seen marching along with a large banner towards the Congress headquarters. They also burnt an effigy of Gandhi and raised slogans against him, demanding an apology.

In a statement, Bidhuri claimed that there was widespread anger among the backward classes over Gandhi’s remarks. He emphasised that reservations, provided by BR Ambedkar, are an integral part of the Indian Constitution.

The MP highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi belongs to the OBC community and under his government, a large number of ministers also come from the backward classes.

Several prominent leaders, like the chief ministers of Madhya Pradesh and Haryana, also hail from OBC backgrounds, and the Modi government granted constitutional status to the OBC Commission, Bidhuri said.

Bidhuri demanded that Gandhi resign as the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha.

In the statement, Sachdeva said the Constitution, drafted by B R Ambedkar, guarantees reservations for OBCs, the SC and ST communities, and dared Gandhi to touch these provisions.

Delhi BJP OBC Morcha president Sunil Yadav said Prime Minister Modi has made it clear that as long as he is in power, the rights of OBCs will not be taken away and the BJP will continue to support reservations.

This fight would be taken to every street, village, and neighbourhood, he said.
