Police inspect vendors to curb misuse of SIM cards in Shopian
by GK Web Desk · Greater KashmirSrinagar, Nov 07: In a decisive move to curb the misuse of mobile connectivity and dismantle networks involved in fraudulent activities, Shopian Police have launched a massive district-wide crackdown on the illegal issuance of SIM cards.
An official said the drive was carried out under the supervision of SSP Shopian, focuses on identifying and taking action against unscrupulous vendors issuing SIM cards without adhering to mandatory verification procedures a malpractice posing serious threats to both public safety and national security.
During the operation, police teams carried out surprise inspections at multiple telecom outlets across the district. The teams meticulously scrutinized Customer Application Forms (CAFs), identity proofs, and sales registers to ensure strict compliance with verification norms and prevent SIM cards from being issued on fake credentials or reaching anti-social elements, official said.
He also said that vendors found violating regulations or maintaining incomplete documentation were issued stern warnings and informed of imminent legal action under relevant provisions of law. Additionally, police officers sensitized retailers about the grave legal and security implications of bypassing mandatory verification processes.
Police reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding public safety and national security by preventing the misuse of mobile connectivity for anti-social or criminal purposes.
