SC Allows Ranveer Allahbadia To Resume His Podcast
by Article by Kranthi · Gulte.comThe Supreme Court modified its February 18 direction barring YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia from airing any shows till further orders.
As part of the modification, the court has allowed him to resume his TV show subject to an undertaking that he would maintain standards of decency and morality.
“Subject to the petitioner furnishing an undertaking to the effect that his podcast shows will maintain the desired standards of decency and morality so that viewers of any age group can watch, the petitioner is allowed to resume the Ranveer Show,” a bench of Justices Surya Kant and N K Singh said.
The court was hearing Allahbadia’s plea seeking consolidation of all FIRs registered against him following his controversial comments during the YouTube show ‘India’s Got Latent’.
On February 18, the court issued notice and granted him protection from arrest. At the same time, he was also asked not to air any show on YouTube or any other audio/video visual mode of communication till further orders.
Allahbadia’s counsel Abhinav Chandrachud said that halting the shows would affect the 31-year-old YouTuber’s livelihood. He said that Allahbadia has 280 employees and it is his source of income. He said the court may order that he shall not repeat the mistake or utter one more profane word.
The bench accepted the request and modified the condition of the orders. Further, the court also said that the interim protection from arrest will continue till further orders.
The court also asked for expanding the scope of the matter and ensure that a regulatory regime is put in place for shows with objectionable content.
