A 35-year-old man, identified as Mohit Singh, died on the spot. He worked as a helper for a company operating from Okhla Phase 1, police said.
Four others injured in the incident were rushed to the AIIMS Trauma Centre for treatment.
Mohit, a resident of Jaipur, had been working with the firm for around three years, police said. The injured have been identified as Umesh, Arvind, Manoj and Pankaj.
According to preliminary information, the workers were employed by a firm involved in the trading and local distribution of industrial oxygen cylinders used for medical purposes and gas-cutting work.
A vehicle carrying the cylinders arrived at the premises this morning. While the workers were unloading the cylinders and moving them into the godown, one of the cylinders reportedly fell from the vehicle onto the road and exploded, PTI reported, citing an official.
The exact cause of the blast is yet to be established. Police said the cylinder, vehicle and other material at the site would be examined by technical and forensic experts to determine the precise cause of the explosion.
