The body of a teenage boy has been pulled from a lake at a beauty spot after he went missing in the water during the latest heatwave. He got into difficulty while swimming at Birmingham's Sutton Park, which is one of the biggest urban parks in Europe.

Specialist rescue teams began searching for the missing teen and his body was recovered from Powells Pool shortly after 6pm on Thursday. West Midlands Police said his family have been informed and are being supported by specially-trained officers. His death is not being treated as suspicious.

A force spokesperson said on Thursday night: "The body of a teenage boy has been recovered from a pool in Sutton Park, Birmingham, this evening.

"West Midlands Police are supporting the family of the boy at this tragic time. Extensive efforts by all emergency services were carried out following the boy going missing in the water just after 6pm.

"Specialist teams were deployed from fire and rescue, ambulance colleagues, and Birmingham City Council colleagues. Sadly, this has resulted in the boy’s body being found and our thoughts are with his family at this time. His death is not being treated as suspicious at this time and we are liaising with the coroner."

Powell's Pool is a popular boating lake situated next to a Miller and Carter pub and Boldmere Golf Course and is home to Sutton Sailing Club.

Another teenage boy, Fraser Amiss, died after diving into Powell's Pool with two friends in 2001 at the park, which is a 2,400-acre National Nature Reserve.
