President Marcos renews call for discipline, unity in 2026
by Helen Flores · philstarMANILA, Philippines — As Filipinos welcome 2026, President Marcos is renewing his call for discipline, unity and readiness to choose service over self-interest for the nation’s progress.
“As we step into the unfolding days ahead, may we move forward with a clearer understanding of our role in each other’s lives and a renewed commitment to building a future shaped not by circumstance alone, but by the strength of our will and the clarity of our collective purpose,” the President said in his New Year’s message.
Marcos urged Filipinos to reflect on the past year’s experiences, stressing the value of learning from challenges while looking to the future with hope.
The Chief Executive also emphasized the value of personal discipline and collective effort in shaping the nation’s future.
‘Invitation to unite’
For Vice President Sara Duterte, the New Year is “an invitation to unite and start a new vision.”
The Vice President said that 2026 marks the beginning of a new chapter, a new clean page filled with hope.
“Let us rekindle our courage and determination,” Duterte said.
Speaker Faustino Dy III said his wish is for the people to have “renewed hope and deeper faith” this 2026.
Accountability
Dy also acknowledged that the people are still looking for accountability amid numerous cases of corruption plaguing the nation.
“We are in the middle of the chapter of our history where disappointments are strong. We thank you for your continuous patience and for giving the chance to get your trust again. We will do everything not to fail you,” Dy said.
“As part of our promise for an open and modern governance, Congress will start in 2026, through the help of the Department of Information and Communications Technology, the move towards a paperless Congress and the use of blockchain technology to ensure integrity, security and transparency in our process, which includes the preparation of the next budget,” he said.
“Once this transition is completed, we will be the first legislative body in Asia to adopt this technology,” Dy added.
