Middle East: Hamas gives 'positive response' on Gaza truce

by · DW

It was unclear if the militants fully accepted the ceasefire proposal, but they were willing to discuss its implementation. Follow DW for the latest.

Hamas says it has given a "positive response" to a new ceasefire proposal in Gaza, but stressed more talks were needed on how to implement it.

The group did not confirm whether it accepted the 60-day truce plan backed by US President Donald Trump.

Trump said Israel had accepted the conditions necessary for the ceasefire.

But Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has yet to comment on the proposal. He is due to meet the US president in Washington next week.

Meanwhile, the UN human rights office says it has counted more than 600 people killed near aid convoys and food distribution points in Gaza since the Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) began operations in late May.
