COP30: Summit struggles to reach fossil fuel phase out deal

The 30th annual UN climate conference was set to end on Friday, but delegates have not managed to seal a deal on phasing out fossil fuels as had been hoped and said they will continue negotiations.
It remains to be seen how much longer officials will stay and try to reach an agreement, as has happened at previous summits.
More than 30 nations, including Germany, France, the UK, and Australia, have signed a joint declaration slamming the omission of fossil fuels from a draft COP30 deal.
The summit was briefly disrupted on Thursday after a fire broke out and had to be contained.
