PNC Flagbearer Bernard Mornah Disqualified from 2024 Elections

Bernard Monarh, the flagbearer of the People’s National Convention (PNC), has been unexpectedly disqualified from contesting the 2024 elections.

The Electoral Commission (EC) announced on September 20 that thirteen presidential aspirants had been cleared to participate in the upcoming December polls, while Monarh is among eleven candidates disqualified.

Out of the 24 presidential aspirants who submitted nominations, most of the disqualified candidates are independents. The EC, in a bid to ensure compliance with legal requirements, conducted a thorough examination of the nomination forms, leading to the disqualification of several candidates.

Monarh, in response to his disqualification, has taken a proactive stance. He revealed that his lawyers have formally requested the EC to provide reasons for the decision. He also criticized the EC’s announcement of eligible candidates as “bogus,” asserting that he had corrected all identified issues in his nomination forms but received no feedback before the public statement.

Monarh, elected as the PNC flagbearer on September 8, had expressed unwavering confidence in the party’s potential impact in the upcoming elections. His disqualification marks a significant moment in the electoral process as candidates prepare for the December 7 general elections.
