Dr. Bawumia Applauds Executive Forum’s Support
by Seibik Bugri · News GhanaThe Vice President and NPP flagbearer, Dr. MahamuduBawumia, has lauded the Executive Forum (EF), a key support group within the NPP, for its longstanding contributions to the party’s successes. At a recent gathering in Accra, Dr. Bawumia acknowledged the Forum’s role in supporting party activities and providing strategic insights that have bolstered the NPP’s initiatives since 2012. The Vice President received 20 motorbikes, 100,000 T-shirts and undisclosed sum of cash donation from the group to strengthen the party’s grassroots outreach ahead of the 2024 elections.
Dr. Bawumia commended the Executive Forum for its consistent financial backing and intellectual support, which he said has helped solidify the NPP’s grassroots appeal and overall campaign strategy. Emphasizing the party’s “retail election” approach, he explained that this strategy focuses on direct engagement with local communities, including religious and traditional leaders, across Ghana. Acknowledging the diverse needs of rural and urban constituents, he noted that the NPP is tailoring its message to the rural areas as the 2024 elections draw closer.
He commended the group for funding various party activities and providing intellectual support that has strengthened the NPP’s initiatives over the years. He explained that the NPP has adopted a “retail election” strategy, which has shifted the campaign narrative in favor of the party. This approach allows the party to engage with various stakeholders at the grassroots level, including imams, pastors, and traditional leaders across the country. Dr. Bawumia noted that the dynamics in rural areas are different from those in urban centers, and the party has adjusted its tactics accordingly to address the rural-urban divide.
Rural-Urban Gap Campaign
Dr. Bawumia revealed that his campaign rounds have highlighted a significant rural-urban dichotomy in Ghana, with the real battleground being in the rural areas. He stressed the importance of reaching out to rural communities to secure support, warning against complacency despite the campaign’s current momentum. He took members through the journey of the campaign, explaining that although the NPP has spearheaded substantial development across the country, many ordinary Ghanaians struggle to connect these achievements to the broader economic progress. To address this, Dr. Bawumia pointed out that the NPP has at least one notable project in every constituency he visited, which serves as a testament to the party’s developmental impact. He outlined a four-pronged approach to the campaign that has begun to make inroads into the strongholds of the party’s opponents.
Solar-Powered Outboard Motors
Dr. Bawumia also touched on issues facing the fishing industry, particularly the underhand dealings in premix fuel distribution. He expressed concern about the corruption that has plagued the sector and announced the introduction of solar-powered outboard motors on a pilot basis to help eliminate these corrupt practices. The solar-powered motors aim to provide a more sustainable and corruption-free alternative for fisherfolk, enhancing productivity while safeguarding the environment.
