In a statement released Wednesday after the court’s verdict, Weah described the decision as a “landmark opinion” that reaffirmed the constitutional order of Liberia.
The Supreme Court ruled Wednesday that the actions of a self-declared “Majority Bloc” within the House of Representatives, which sought to unseat Koffa, were unconstitutional and illegal.
“The ruling is not merely a legal decision; it is a crucial affirmation of the rule of law and the constitutional order that underpins our democracy,” Weah said. He warned that any attempt to undermine or ignore the ruling could plunge Liberia into a constitutional crisis, threatening the country’s fragile peace and democratic gains.
Weah issued a direct appeal to President Boakai and his administration, urging them to comply with the Court’s ruling. “Ignoring or rejecting the authority of our judiciary undermines the sovereignty of our Constitution and endangers our collective peace with dire consequences,” he cautioned.
The former president also called on Liberia’s international partners to support the enforcement of the Court’s decision and encourage the Boakai government to respect the rule of law.W
Weah also stressed the importance of unity and constitutional integrity. “Our democracy is founded on justice, legality, and the rule of law. It is our shared duty to defend these principles with unwavering resolve,” he said.
The Supreme Court’s ruling ends weeks of political uncertainty over the leadership of the House, reinforcing Koffa’s position as Speaker amid internal disputes among lawmakers.
