Michelle Obama Says President Trump’s East Wing Demolition Is a ‘Reflection’ of How He Views the ‘Role’ of First Lady
· Yahoo NewsMichelle Obama isn’t too fond of the changes President Donald Trump has made to the White House.
Last month, Trump demolished the East Wing, where the First Lady’s offices were typically located, to build a $300 million, 90,000-square-foot ballroom.
In an interview with Vanity Fair published on Thursday, November 6, the Becoming author, 61 — who served as First Lady from 2009 to 2017 — criticized the renovations.

“When we talk about the East Wing, it is the heart of the work,” she told the outlet. “And to denigrate it, to tear it down, to pretend like it doesn’t matter—it’s a reflection of how you think of that role.”
The IMO podcast host also noted that what goes on in the East Wing does affect the president.
“Whether the West Wing understood it or not, I used to tell them: All the stuff we do on the East Wing, from the clothes I wear to [family dogs] Bo and Sunny to Malia and Sasha and grandma, those were five extra approval points that he got, because we provided a balance,” she explained.
Earlier last week, Michelle subtly addressed the renovations with Jenna Bush Hager on Today with Jenna and Friends as they discussed the “strange job” of being the First Lady.

“There’s no guidebook, there’s barely a staff,” Michelle stated. “Now we don’t have a building.”
“I know, R.I.P. the East Wing,” Bush Hager, 43 — whose mom Laura Bush was also First Lady — remarked.
