'Chairman Biggest Disruptor, Became Govt's Spokesperson': Kharge On No-Confidence Motion Against Dhankhar

Mallikarjun Kharge said that the biggest reason behind the disruption in the House has been the Rajya Sabha Chairman himself and added that his conduct in the house has harmed the country's dignity.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday hit out at Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar accusing him of working as the government spokesperson in Rajya Sabha. 

Kharge said that the biggest reason behind the disruption in the Parliament's upper house has been the Rajya Sabha Chairman himself and added that his conduct in the house has harmed the country's dignity.

The Congress chief said that he has nothing against the Rajya Sabha Chairman, but he left us with no option but to go ahead with notice for his removal.

"The position of Vice President is the second constitutional position... Since 1952 - there has been no resolution brought to remove the Vice President as they have always been unbiased and beyond politics. They always ran the House as per the rules. But today we are forced to say politics is happening in Parliament... We are disappointed that in the 75th year of independence, biased behaviour forced us to bring a no-confidence motion," Kharge said during the press conference of the opposition INDIA bloc in the Constitution Club in the national capital.

"The Vice President sometimes praises the government, and sometimes calls himself 'Eklavya' of RSS. He makes objectionable comments on leaders. There have been eminent personalities from different fields, whom he schools... I want to say that the chairman does not allow discussion on Opposition's issues in a planned manner. We feel that he has become the spokesperson of the government," the Congress leader said.

The biggest reason for disruptions in the Parliament is the Chairman himself, he further said.

Meanwhile, Union Minister BL Verma reacted to the Congress chief's remarks saying that Kharge is a senior leader and has insulted the dignity of the position. 

"Mallikarjun Kharge is a senior leader and he should've thought before making such a remark. He (Jagdeep Dhankhar) is not just the (Rajya Sabha) Chairperson but also the Vice-President. He (Mallikarjun Kharge) has insulted the dignity of that position," Verma said.
