AIADMK-BJP Alliance: In a major political announcement, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday confirmed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will contest the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections under the leadership of former Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS). This declaration reportedly positions EPS as the Chief Ministerial candidate of the NDA in the state. However, the confirmation is yet to be given on the part of BJP.

AIADMK-BJP Alliance Sealed

In a joint press meet between AIADMK and BJP at a private hotel in Chennai, Shah expressed strong confidence in the AIADMK-BJP alliance, asserting that the coalition will form the next government in Tamil Nadu. Amit Shah clarified that the BJP had not placed any demands on the AIADMK in forming the alliance, describing the partnership as "organic" and based on mutual understanding.

On the BJP-AIADMK alliance, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said, as per ANI, "Seat distribution and the distribution of ministries after the government is formed, both will be decided later."

'DMK Diverting Attention With NEET, Sanatana Dharma'

Amit Shah accused the DMK of repeatedly bringing up issues such as the three-language policy, Sanatana Dharma, and delimitation to divert public attention from real concerns.

The Union Minister said, as per PTI, "We will sit with AIADMK (since their stand on these issues is different from the BJP-led NDA) and discuss with them on these issues and if needed, there will be a common minimum programme."

OPS, TTV To Be Part Of Alliance?

When asked about the possible inclusion of former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam or AMMK leader TTV Dhinakaran in the NDA alliance alongside the AIADMK, Shah said it was an internal matter of the party and refrained from offering any further comment.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed happiness for the alliance revival and stated, "Stronger together, united towards Tamil Nadu’s progress! Glad that AIADMK joins the NDA family. Together, with our other NDA partners, we will take Tamil Nadu to new heights of progress and serve the state diligently. We will ensure a government that fulfils the vision of the great MGR and Jayalalithaa Ji.  For the sake of Tamil Nadu’s progress and to preserve the uniqueness of Tamil culture, it is important the corrupt and divisive DMK is uprooted at the earliest, which our alliance will do."

Amit Shah also took to X and posted, "The BJP and the AIADMK are committed to protect and promote the language, culture and heritage of Tamil Nadu. The people of Tamil Nadu are fed up with the rampant corruption of the DMK and are determined to oust the corrupt government. The BJP and the AIADMK will jointly go from village to village to awaken people to the DMK misrule and will form a government fulfilling people's aspirations."
