A Russian woman with a deep interest in spirituality was found living with her two daughters in a remote cave in the Ramatirtha hills of Kumta taluk, Uttara Kannada district in Karnataka.

Identified as Nina Kutina, also known as Mohi, the 40-year-old woman had reportedly entered India on a business visa and travelled through Goa before reaching the sacred town of Gokarna. Police said she was deeply drawn by Hindu philosophy and spiritual practices, which led her to the sacred coastal town, news agency PTI reported.

According to authorities, Mohi had been residing in a secluded natural cave in the treacherous hills with her daughters, Preya (6) and Ama (4), for nearly two weeks.

The cave was located in a rugged terrain surrounded by thick forest and steep inclines. The woman had placed a Rudra idol and spent her days immersed in 'puja' and meditation, with only her children for company.

Woman Found During Routine Patrolling

Their presence came to light during a police patrol on Friday, initiated after a recent landslide in the area. Circle Inspector Sridhar and his team noticed clothes hanging outside the cave and, upon further inspection, discovered the trio living inside, the PTI report said.

Speaking to PTI, Uttara Kannada Superintendent of Police M. Narayana said,"Our patrolling team spotted saree and other clothes being hung for drying outside the cave in Ramatirtha Hill. When they went there, they spotted Mohi along with her children Preya and Ama."

He expressed astonishment at how they managed to survive in such conditions in the woods and noted that, fortunately, all three were found safe and unharmed.

Further investigation revealed that Mohi’s visa had expired in 2017, raising questions about the length and legality of her stay in India. Her route from Goa to the cave is also being examined by authorities.

The police have since arranged for her temporary accommodation at an ashram managed by a Sadhvi in Gokarna. Officials are working to shift her to Bengaluru to begin the deportation process, and with the assistance of a local NGO. The police also contacted the Russian Embassy to facilitate necessary formalities.
