The ruling Mahayuti alliance has secured a decisive mandate in Maharashtra’s 2025 local body elections, reinforcing its political dominance at the grassroots level. Results from municipal councils and nagar panchayats show the alliance comfortably outperforming the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerging as the single largest party. The outcome has been projected by the ruling side as an endorsement of its development-focused governance, while the opposition has accepted the verdict with sharp allegations against the election process. The results are likely to shape the political narrative in the state ahead of future Assembly and parliamentary contests.

Ruling Camp Celebrates, Opposition Raises Objections
Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked the people of Maharashtra for backing the BJP and the Mahayuti, calling the mandate a vote of confidence in development-oriented governance.
“Maharashtra has reaffirmed its faith in development. I am grateful to the people of the state for placing their trust in the BJP and the Mahayuti. This mandate strengthens our commitment to people-centric growth and to working with renewed energy to fulfil the aspirations of every citizen. I commend the dedication of BJP and Mahayuti workers who worked tirelessly at the grassroots,” the Prime Minister said in a post on X.
Senior BJP leaders welcomed the verdict as a strong public endorsement. Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari congratulated the Mahayuti, crediting the win to development-oriented governance and the party’s organisational strength.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis described the performance as a “team effort” between the BJP organisation and the state government. He said the campaign focused strictly on development, past work and future plans, without personal attacks on political rivals.
The opposition, however, struck a discordant note. Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders virtually conceded defeat but accused the Election Commission of facilitating the ruling alliance’s victory. Maharashtra Congress president Harshwardhan Sapkal criticised the poll authority, while Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut alleged excessive use of money power and claimed Electronic Voting Machines were tampered with-charges strongly rejected by the Mahayuti.
The results have sharpened political fault lines in Maharashtra, signalling an aggressive phase of political contestation in the months ahead.
