‘Extradited Tahawwur Rana To India To Face Justice’: US Vows Joint Fight Against ‘Global Scourge Of Terrorism’

The US State Department on Thursday reacted to the extradition of 26/11 Mumbai terror attack accused Tahawwur Rana to India to "face justice", reiterating its commitment to combat the scourge of global terrorism along with India.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio released a statement pointing to the country's efforts to ensure justice for those responsible for the 26/11 attacks. He stated, "On April 9, the United States extradited Tahawwur Hussain Rana to India to face justice for his role in planning the horrific 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks. These attacks resulted in the tragic loss of 166 lives, including six Americans, and shocked the entire world."
"The United States has long supported India’s efforts to ensure those responsible for these attacks are brought to justice. As President Trump has said, the United States and India will continue to work together to combat the global scourge of terrorism," he added.
He also posted on social media, "We extradited Tahawwur Hussain Rana to India to face charges for his role in planning the horrific 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks. Together, with India, we've long sought justice for the 166 people, including 6 Americans, who lost their lives in these attacks. I'm glad that day has come."
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar responded to Marco Rubio's post stating, "Appreciate the counter-terrorism cooperation between our two countries. This is indeed a big step in ensuring justice for the victims of 26/11 attacks."
During a press briefing following Rana's extradition, the US State Department spokesperson, Tammy Bruce, stated that the US has supported India's efforts to hold those responsible for the terror attacks accountable and will continue its efforts in the future as well.
"On April 9th, the United States extradited Tahawwur Hussain Rana to India to face justice for his role in planning the horrific 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks... These attacks resulted in the tragic loss of 166 lives, including six Americans, that shocked the entire world," Tammy Bruce said.
She also expressed pride in Rana's extradition, saying that he was now in India's possession, where he would face trial for his role as the key conspirator in the deadly 26/11 attack, which claimed 166 lives, including six Americans.
"The United States has long supported India's efforts to ensure those responsible for these attacks are brought to justice, and as President Trump has said, the United States and India will continue to work together to combat the global scourge of terrorism. He is in their possession, and we are very proud of that dynamic," she added.

Rana To Remain In NIA Custody For 18 Days
This reaction came after the 64-year-old Canadian national of Pakistani origin landed in Delhi on Thursday evening in a special flight from the US. He was escorted by teams of NSG and NIA, comprising senior officials, on a special plane from Los Angeles. The National Investigaion Agency successfully secured Rana's extradition after nearly 16 years of concerted efforts to bring the key plotter behind the Mumbai attacks to justice.
Rana was sent to 18 days of NIA custody by a Special NIA court on Friday. He will now be questioned by the anti-terror agency in detail to unravel the conspiracy behind the deadly 26/11 terror attack.
"Rana will remain in NIA custody for 18 days, during which time the agency will question him in detail in order to unravel the complete conspiracy behind the deadly 2008 attacks, in which a total of 166 persons were killed and over 238 injured," said a statement issued by the NIA soon after the court's order.
US Says Tariff Negotiations Underway With Many Countires
US Department of State Spokesperson Tammy Bruce also commented on the tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump on multiple countries, stating that negotiations were underway with several countries. She also highlighted that over 75 nations would benefit by working with the US.
"President Trump continues to put American workers first by bringing trading partners around the world to the table with a fresh perspective to achieve reciprocity and fairness... More than 75 countries recognise the benefit of working with the US. Many negotiations are also underway. President Trump has also been clear on China," she said.
Justifying US's decision to impose 125 percent tariff on China, Bruce said: "China's unfair trade practices are not only hurting the United States and our workers, but the market economies around the world. China has actively undermined the world trading order for decades. It is high time to correct that imbalance."
She further lauded President Trump for being the only leader in the world to take action against China on this front.
