In the murder of the 17-year-old boy in Delhi's Seelampur, 'Lady don' Zikra has been detained. Besides, three more people have been detained. According to Delhi Police, Zikra's cousin, Sahil, is also in touch with the police. According to news agency PTI, quoting police reports, the family members of the deceased have claimed that Zikra, a local woman known as 'lady don' in the area, was present at the crime scene when Kunal was killed. Police have detained Zikra for questioning, sources said, though she has not been formally arrested.
Zikra worked as a bouncer for jailed gangster Hashim Baba's wife, Zoya, before her arrest by Delhi Police in a drugs case. She was reportedly living with Zoya before the latter was jailed. It is believed that Zikra was trying to form her own gang after Zoya's arrest, sources said, as quoted by news agency PTI.
The deceased's family members claimed that sometime back, a few members from Kunal's community allegedly attacked Zikra's cousin brother, Sahil, prompting police to register an attempted murder case. News agency PTI reported, quoting sources, that Kunal's murder could be an act of revenge for that incident.
It is suspected that Kunal was also involved in the stabbing of Sahil. Although Sahil did not die, he, along with Zikra, hatched a plan to take revenge for the attack, a family source said, as quoted by PTI.
Family Of Kunal Blocks GT Road
In the day, the family of Kunal blocked GT Road in protest. The family and local residents staged a demonstration, raising slogans and accusing the police of not allowing the victim’s body to be brought home.
According to the family of the victim, the authorities were allegedly attempting to take the body directly to the crematorium without giving them a chance to perform final rites at home. This led to outrage among the locals, who joined the family in blocking the main road. The mother of the victim said that she has not received the body of the child.
"We have not received my child's body yet. Was my son a criminal that they are not giving us his body?," the mother said, as quoted by news agency IANS.
Kunal was stabbed on Thursday evening in New Seelampur, and police have identified two suspects—Sahil and Rehan—after scanning CCTV camera footage from the area, Joint Commissioner of Police (Eastern Range), Pushpendra Kumar, said.
The protesters had refused to clear the road despite repeated appeals from the police. As a result, traffic came to a standstill in parts of Delhi as roads remained blocked for over an hour due to ongoing protests. Hindu leader Jai Bhagwan Goyal also reached the spot to show support. Kunal’s family, along with local residents, are sitting on the road, refusing to move until their demands are heard.
In response, Delhi Police deployed additional forces, including paramilitary personnel, to maintain law and order. Water cannon vehicles were also brought to the scene as a precautionary measure. Despite efforts to negotiate, the protesters remained on the streets, demanding justice and proper last rites for the deceased.
The situation remains tense as authorities continue to engage with the family and the crowd to restore normalcy.
