The formation of the Maharashtra government is expected to be completed by 30th November, with a legislative party meeting scheduled to take place within the next three days. A final decision is anticipated by next weekend, sources have confirmed.

The Governor has sought the opinion of the Advocate General and several other legal experts regarding the timeline for government formation. It has been clarified that there is no compulsion for the government to be formed before 26th November. Historical precedents suggest that the formation of a new government has occurred up to 11 days after the previous government’s term ended.

Maharashtra Election 2024: No Strict Deadline For Completing Process

Maharashtra’s legislative term is set to conclude on 26th November, but the Election Commission has stated that there are no strict deadlines for the formation of the government. The time constraint previously applied only to the Election Commission, which was required to conduct elections. The Mahayuti alliance now has ample time to form the government.

Additionally, it is reported that a team from the Election Commission will submit the list of newly elected legislators to the Maharashtra Governor on Sunday.

In the 2019 Maharashtra elections, voting took place on 21st October, with the results being announced on 24th October. Devendra Fadnavis took the oath as Chief Minister on 23rd November, only to resign five days later. Subsequently, Uddhav Thackeray from the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) took the oath as Chief Minister on 28th November.

As for the current question of who will become the Chief Minister, the BJP had a strong showing in the Maharashtra Assembly elections, winning 132 seats. Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena secured 57 seats, while Ajit Pawar’s NCP won 41 seats. However, the combined opposition parties of the Maha Vikas Aghadi failed to surpass the 50-seat mark, with Congress securing 16 seats, the NCP-SP alliance winning 10, and the Shiv Sena-UBT alliance gaining 20 seats.
