All government, private and civic-run schools and colleges in Mumbai will remain closed on Monday after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for heavy rainfall and gusty winds in the city. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced the holiday as a precautionary measure, keeping the safety of students in mind. However, government and private offices will continue to operate normally. Authorities have urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel amid the ongoing spell of heavy rain.
Schools Shut Monday
The BMC issued a statement on Sunday evening announcing a holiday for educational institutions across Mumbai following the weather warning.
The civic body said the decision was taken considering the safety of students as the city braces for more heavy showers. The order applies to all schools and colleges run by the government, private managements and the municipal corporation.

Offices To Stay Open
While educational institutions will remain shut, government and private offices across Mumbai will function as usual, according to the civic administration.
The BMC has advised citizens to step out only when necessary and follow weather-related guidelines issued by authorities.
Mumbai and neighbouring areas have been receiving intense rainfall over the past few days, leading to waterlogging, traffic disruption and incidents of treefall.
Since June 30, rain-related incidents involving falling trees have claimed three lives, including that of a schoolboy. The authorities continue to monitor the situation as heavy rainfall is expected to continue.
