Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday vowed to resign if 'land grab' allegations levelled by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Anurag Thakur against him are proven.
As the the Upper House of the Parliament convened for the day, Kharge raised the objection against the charge saying Thakur's allegation has damaged his reputation. He asked the BJP MP to prove the 'wild' allegations against him or resign.
On Wednesday, Thakur launched an attack on Congress in the Lok Sabha for opposing the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025. He said the proposed legislation will be the last nail in the coffin on Congress' "appeasement politics."
He also levelled an allegation against Kharge claiming he grabbed land without permission.

Kharge Slams Thakur
Speaking in Rajya Sabha, Kharge demanded Thakur to either prove the allegation or apologise for his statement.
“I am forced to stand up and condemn Anurag Thakur’s wild allegations. I expect an apology from the Leader of the House. If Anurag Thakur cannot prove his allegation, he has no right to be in Parliament, and he should resign," Kharge said. "If it is proved, I will resign. If the BJP wants me to bend by scaring me, I will never bow down. I will break, but will never bow down," he added.
Later taking to X, Kharge said: "I rise in deep anguish. My life has always been an open book, full of struggles and battles, but I have always upheld the highest values in public life. After almost 60 years in politics, I don't deserve this."
