The legal trouble for Royal Challengers Bengaluru seems to be far from over as a man, claiming to be the stampede survivor, has filed complaint against the team and the event organisers for the deadly incident, which claimed eleven lives and left 33 others injured.
The First Information Report (FIR) has been filed by one 25-year-old Rolan Gomes at the Cubbon Park Police Station holding the Royal Challengers Bengaluru franchise responsible for the M Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede on June 4. He has also named Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) and eventorganiser DNA agency for the fatal incident.
The man is a designer by profession and resides in Rajarajeshwari Nagar. He works at VP India Company. The complaint stated that he suffered a dislocated shoulder in the crowd crush near the stadium’s Gate No 17.
Survivor Blames Organisers' Negligence For Stampede
Gomes has alleged that large crowds were allowed without proper ticketing or control as he blamed "negligence and poor planning” by the organisers and stadium authorities for the stampede, India Today reported.
"The official X account and social media handles of the RCB franchise announced that a Victory Parade would be held at 3.00 pm," the FIR noted. In his complaint, the man also claimed that social media posts and news outlets spread information that tickets for the event would be distributed at the gates of the stadium and that entry would be allowed even without tickets.
He said that these posts encouraged him to reach the stadium at around 2:15 PM with two of his friends.
“Thousands of fans and RCB supporters had gathered there. Due to the heavy crowd, the police personnel opened the gate around 3.10 pm. As thousands of people rushed in at once and the gates were narrow, everyone tried to enter at the same time. In the chaos, due to the pressure and pushing, I slipped and fell. People coming from behind trampled those who had fallen. Some were seen to be unwell and fainting,” the complaint further stated, as reported by India Today.
Requesting proper action against RCB and the state cricket body, the FIR said, "This entire incident occurred due to negligence by the RCB franchise, DNA, and the KSCA management, who failed to make proper arrangements and facilities. Their negligence led to life-threatening situations. Therefore, I request that appropriate legal action be taken against them."
