Britain, France, and Ukraine have agreed to work on a ceasefire plan to present to the United States, said British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Speaking to BBC, Starmer said he believes the US president wants a durable peace in Ukraine. He further said that American security guarantees will be needed to make it stick.

Three Keys For Lasting Peace

He listed three things that were believed were needed for a lasting peace in Ukraine including a "strong Ukraine", a US backstop, and a European element with security guarantees.

"You can't have a deal that falls apart and that's what Zelensky is worried about," he said, adding that Zelenskyy was "rightly concerned" a proposed deal "had to hold".

On the Oval Office spat that had the world talking when Trump and Zelenskyy engaged in a shouting bout, Starmer said he felt "uncomfortable" watching the row but decided to "roll up [his] sleeves" and call them both rather than "ramp up the rhetoric."
