Assam CID Arrested Zubeen Garg’s Security Guards After Rs 1 Crore Bank Transactions Surface

In a significant development in the investigation into the untimely death of singer Zubeen Garg, Assam Police’s SIT/CID arrested two of his long-time personal security officers (PSOs) on October 10. Nandeswar Bora and Paresh Baishya, who had served as Garg’s bodyguards for seven years, were taken into custody and are being produced before the CJM court.

With this arrest, the total number of individuals apprehended in connection with the case has now risen to seven. Authorities reported that the two PSOs had recorded over Rs 1.1 crore in financial transactions in their bank accounts over the past few years—an amount far exceeding their known sources of income. According to CID Special DGP Munna Prasad Gupta, one account held Rs 70 lakh while the other recorded Rs 45 lakh.

Interestingly, Bora and Baishya had stayed back in Assam while Garg’s team traveled to Singapore, where the singer tragically passed away under mysterious circumstances on September 19. Garg had been in the Southeast Asian nation to attend the 4th edition of the North East India Festival.

Amid the ongoing probe, Garg’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg, clarified her position, stating that the late singer had given money to his PSOs for social work. “Zubeen had provided some money to the PSOs for their social initiatives,” she told news agency PTI. She also emphasized that she was unaware of her husband’s financial dealings and urged authorities not to politicize the matter. “We just want to understand what happened to him on that day,” she added.

Following these revelations, Assam SIT suspended Bora and Baishya after detecting substantial financial irregularities. Investigators also noted that the PSOs maintained diaries and records detailing various transactions, which are now under scrutiny as part of the probe.
