Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma divorce: A major update has come in the divorce case between Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and his estranged wife, Dhanashree Verma. There had been rumours about the alimony amount, with some speculating it could be Rs 60 crore.

Yuzvendra Chahal agrees to pay alimony

The Bombay High Court has allowed the couple to skip the usual six-month cooling-off period after the divorce. The court has instructed the family court to finalise the divorce by March 20, ahead of Chahal’s participation in the IPL 2025 season starting on March 22. According to a report from Bar and Bench, it’s now confirmed that Chahal will pay Rs 4.75 crore in alimony, with Rs 2.37 crore already paid.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Bar and Bench posted: "Bombay High Court has overturned a Family Court decision that denied the request to waive the statutory cooling-off period for the divorce of cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma under the Hindu Marriage Act. A bench of Justice Madhav Jamdar has also directed the family court to decide the divorce petition by tomorrow considering Chahal's participation in the upcoming IPL."

According to Bar and Bench, Yuzvendra and Dhanashree have been living separately since June 2022. In February this year, they filed for divorce before the Bandra Family Court and requested a waiver for the usual six-month cooling-off period.

Under Section 13B(2) of the Hindu Marriage Act, a family court typically requires a six-month waiting period to allow for reconciliation. However, given that the couple had been separated for over two years, the Bombay High Court did not apply this clause. The divorce petition was filed under Section 13B, seeking mutual consent.

The case became complicated when the court, on February 20, denied the waiver, citing partial compliance with the alimony agreement. Chahal had agreed to pay Rs 4.75 crore in permanent alimony, but only Rs 2.37 crore has been paid so far, leading to the rejection of the waiver request.

Yuzvendra Chahal-Dhanashree Verma divorce

Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma, who married in December 2020, separated in June 2022. Before their divorce, the couple faced intense public scrutiny, with rumours circulating on social media about their split, the terms of their divorce agreement, and the alimony amount.

In response to claims that she had requested Rs 60 crore in alimony, Dhanashree Verma issued a statement to clarify the situation. She said, "We are deeply outraged by the baseless claims being circulated about the alimony figure. Let me be absolutely clear—no such amount has ever been asked, demanded, or even offered. There is no truth to these rumours whatsoever. It is deeply irresponsible to publish such unverified information, dragging not just the parties but also their families into unnecessary speculation."
