Russian President Vladimir Putin has agreed to "many elements" of a peace deal with Ukraine. US President Donald Trump has said ahead of the much-anticipated phone call between the two leaders.

Taking to his Truth Social, Trump said he will speak to Putin on Tuesday. While there have been agreements, "much remains" to be worked upon, he added.

"Each week brings 2,500 soldier deaths, from both sides, and it must end NOW. I look very much forward to the call with President Putin," Trump wrote.

Earlier, he told the reporters that "we're going to see if we can work a peace agreement, a ceasefire and peace, and I think we'll be able to do it".

The Kremlin also confirmed on Monday that the two leaders will speak over a phone call. The call will mainly be about settling the conflict in Ukraine but is also "an important step that sets the tone for the movement to revive relations between the states,” reported Washington Post.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in his nightly address has accused Putin of prolonging the war.

"This proposal could have been implemented long ago," he said, adding that "every day in wartime means human lives".

What Will Trump, and Putin Discuss?

Trump said negotiators had already pinpointed certain topics up for discussion.

On being asked what concessions Russia would make in a potential deal, Trump said discussions have taken place about "dividing up" assets. "We will be talking about land. We will be talking about power plants,” he said.

I think a lot of it has already been discussed at length by both sides, Ukraine and Russia," he added.

Ahead of the phone call, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters on Monday that Trump was "determined" to secure the peace deal.

On questions on what the talks might cover, she said: "There's a power plant that is on the border of Russia and Ukraine that was up for discussion with the Ukrainians, and he will address it in his call with Putin tomorrow," in an apparent reference to Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.

The facility, the largest in Europe been occupied by Russian forces since March 2022, and fears of a nuclear accident have persisted due to fighting in the area.
