Punjab: Rail Track Damaged Near Sirhind, Police Probe Explosion Angle
by Northlines · NorthlinesChandigarh, Jan 24: A portion of a railway track used for freight trains was found damaged near Sirhind in Punjab’s Fatehgarh Sahib district, prompting police to investigate whether the damage was caused by an explosion, officials said on Saturday.
According to the Government Railway Police (GRP), the damaged stretch of track is located near Khanpur village, around 4–5 kilometres from Sirhind railway station, and was обнаружed on Friday night.
The official said the track is exclusively used for goods trains. Police teams visited the spot to assess the extent of damage and collect evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.
When asked whether the track was damaged due to an explosion, the official said the matter was under investigation and no conclusion had been reached yet.
A case has been registered under Section 150 of the Railways Act, which pertains to maliciously wrecking or attempting to wreck a train. Further investigation is underway. (Agencies)
