Pak Navy Vessel Collides With Indian Navy Ship: MEA Summons Pakistan Charge d’Affaires

New Delhi, Sept 16: India on Wednesday summoned Pakistan’s Charge d’Affaires and lodged a strong protest over a collision between a Pakistani naval vessel and an Indian Navy unit in international waters in the Arabian Sea, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.

The MEA described the conduct of the Pakistani naval unit as “unacceptable and unprofessional” and said the incident did not cause any major damage. The collision took place on September 15, according to reports citing government sources.

“The Charge d’Affaires of the High Commission for the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in New Delhi was summoned to the Ministry of External Affairs today and a strong protest was lodged with him over the unacceptable and unprofessional conduct of Pakistani naval units at sea that led to a collision with a unit of the Indian Navy,” the MEA said.

The Ministry said the incident occurred in international waters and alleged that the conduct of the Pakistani naval ship was in direct contravention of Article 10 of the 1991 Agreement between India and Pakistan on Advance Notice on Military Exercises, Manoeuvres and Troops Movements.

The Pakistani diplomat was advised to convey to the concerned authorities the need for all military units to exercise due care and comply with relevant bilateral agreements to prevent any recurrence.

India has also instructed its Charge d’Affaires in Islamabad to lodge a similar protest with Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the MEA said. (Agencies)
