Two Dead, Several Injured as Vehicle Plunges Into Gorge in Pahalgam

Anantnag, June 17: Two persons were killed and several others injured after a vehicle skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge near the Lidder River in the Aru area of Pahalgam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Wednesday, officials said.

The accident involved a vehicle bearing registration number JK03C-6737, which reportedly lost control and fell into the gorge along the river stretch, they said.

Officials said two persons died on the spot, while multiple others sustained injuries in the mishap. The exact number of injured was being verified.

Soon after the incident, police, traffic police and emergency response teams rushed to the site and launched a rescue and recovery operation to evacuate the injured and search for possible survivors.

Authorities said rescue efforts were continuing and further details about the condition of the injured and total casualties were awaited.

An investigation has been initiated to ascertain the cause of the accident. (JKNS)
