by Northlines · NorthlinesRISHIKESH (U’KHAND), May 19: Three coaches of the Ujjaini Express derailed near Yog Nagari railway station in Rishikesh on Monday night, officials said. No casualties or injuries were reported as the train was not carrying passengers at the time.
The incident occurred around 9:40 pm near the Khand Gaon area when the train was being moved from the platform to the railway yard after arriving at Yog Nagari station at 6 pm. It was scheduled to depart for its return journey at 6:15 am the next day.
Officials said the locomotive collided with a buffer stop at the end of the shunting line, causing pressure on the coaches. As a result, one coach derailed, another buckled, and a total of three coaches were damaged.
Railway authorities confirmed that train operations were not affected and services continued normally. Damaged coaches were detached from the rake, while efforts are underway to restore the affected coaches using a crane.
Yog Nagari railway station manager Surendra Kumar Sharma said a probe has been ordered to determine the exact cause of the incident.
Following the derailment, a crowd gathered near the track, which was later dispersed by teams from the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF). (Agencies)
