JAMMU, Dec 21: Security forces on Sunday launched a massive search operation in a village of Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district after terrorists allegedly took food from a local house before escaping into the nearby forest area, officials said.

A joint team of police and paramilitary forces began the operation in Chore Motu village and its adjoining forest hamlets in the Majalta area, about five kilometres west of the site of a recent encounter in which a policeman was killed, they said.

According to officials, intelligence inputs received late Saturday indicated that two unidentified terrorists visited the house of Mangtu Ram in Chore Motu around 6.30 pm and took food before fleeing.

Following the input, police and paramilitary personnel were immediately rushed to the area, but the terrorists could not be traced, officials said.

The entire forest belt surrounding the village was cordoned off, and a coordinated combing operation was launched from multiple directions with the first light of Sunday to track down and neutralise the terrorists, they added.

Earlier, on December 15, a policeman was killed in an encounter with terrorists at Soan village in the Majalta area after security forces received information about the movement of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorists.

The terrorists had managed to escape at that time, taking advantage of thick foliage and darkness, officials said. (Agencies)
