7 Killed, 14 Injured In Tunnel Mishap At Chamoli Hydro Project

DEHRADUN, Aug 14: Seven people were killed and 14 others injured after a landslide and water seepage occurred inside an under-construction tunnel at a hydroelectric project site in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand on Thursday evening.

A total of 21 people were brought out of the tunnel following the incident. Seven of them were declared dead, while 14 injured persons were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The incident took place at a project site of the Tehri Hydro Development Corporation in the Pipalkoti area of Chamoli district.

The landslide and sudden water seepage inside the under-construction tunnel triggered the rescue operation, with teams working to evacuate those trapped inside.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed concern over the incident and directed all concerned agencies to carry out relief and rescue operations on a war footing.

Authorities continued efforts at the site to ensure the safety of workers and complete the rescue operation. (Agencies)
