NEW DELHI, May 13: The Central Bureau of Investigation has intensified its probe into the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak, taking Shubham Khairnar into custody as part of a widening investigation into the suspected network.

Khairnar was detained in Nashik by the crime branch of Nashik Police at the request of Rajasthan Police.

The NEET-UG 2026 exam, conducted on May 3 for admission to undergraduate medical courses, was cancelled following allegations of a paper leak, prompting the Centre to hand over a comprehensive probe to the CBI.

In Latur, a parent filed a complaint alleging that a private coaching institute conducted a mock test in which 42 questions reportedly matched those in the actual exam. Superintendent of Police Amol Tambe has ordered an immediate inquiry and directed legal action against those found involved, while appealing to citizens to share relevant information.

Earlier, the Special Operations Group of Rajasthan Police detained 15 individuals while probing the suspected network and money trail. An alleged mastermind, identified as Manish, was detained from Jaipur. Prior to that, five persons, including Sikar-based career counsellor Rakesh Kumar, were arrested from Dehradun, followed by the arrest of four NEET aspirants.

A CBI team has reached Jaipur and questioned around two dozen individuals rounded up by the Special Operations Group, while hundreds more have been examined in Sikar district and adjoining areas.

Officials said several suspects allegedly sold “guess papers” for money, with multiple questions reportedly appearing in the actual NEET examination, indicating a wider organised racket. (Agencies)
