Boulder Crushes Army Vehicle in Ladakh’s Durbuk, Rescue Ops Underway
by Northlines · NorthlinesLeh, July 30: A major mishap struck an Army convoy in eastern Ladakh on Wednesday when a boulder dislodged from a cliff and crashed onto one of the vehicles near Durbuk, a remote and rugged region of the Union Territory.
According to officials, the incident occurred around 11:30 AM when the military convoy was navigating through the treacherous mountain route. A rescue operation was immediately launched by the Army’s Leh-based Fire and Fury Corps, which confirmed the incident in a post on X (formerly Twitter):
“A boulder from a cliff fell on one of the vehicles of a military convoy in Ladakh, around 1130h on 30 July 2025. Recovery action is in progress.”
Sources revealed that at least four Army personnel, including a senior officer, were injured when the boulder struck their SUV. The exact nature of the injuries and their current condition remain undisclosed as rescue and medical teams continue operations in the high-altitude terrain.
This incident highlights the perilous conditions faced by defence personnel deployed in the strategic but challenging landscape of Ladakh, especially during the monsoon months when landslides and rockfalls are frequent.
Further details are awaited as the rescue and recovery efforts continue in the area.
