Jammu, Jan 31: Security forces on Saturday launched a search operation along the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district after a drone, suspected to have originated from Pakistan, was spotted hovering briefly over Indian territory, officials said.

The drone was sighted near Chillyari village, where it hovered for a couple of minutes along the IB before returning towards Pakistan, officials added.

Following the sighting, police and other security agencies carried out an extensive search operation in Chillyari village and surrounding areas. The forces scanned vulnerable stretches along the IB to rule out the possibility of any airdrop of weapons, explosives or narcotics.

Officials said the situation is being closely monitored and additional surveillance has been strengthened in the border area as a precautionary measure.

A similar incident was reported on Friday when a suspected Pakistani drone briefly hovered over Indian territory near Ratanpur village in the Ramgarh sector of Samba district before retreating, officials said. (Agencies)
