J&K: Encounter Breaks Out Between Terrorists and Security Forces in Kishtwar
by Northlines · NorthlinesJammu, November 5: A fierce gunfight broke out early Wednesday between terrorists and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district, officials confirmed.
According to the Army’s White Knight Corps, the encounter began after an intelligence-based joint operation was launched with Jammu and Kashmir Police in the general area of Chhatru. “Alert troops established contact with terrorists in Chhatru. The operation is in progress,” the White Knight Corps said in a post on X.
Sources said that two to three terrorists are believed to be trapped in the area, and one jawan has sustained minor injuries in the exchange of fire.
Security forces have intensified operations in Kishtwar, a mountainous region that has witnessed heightened militant activity in recent months. The district, which borders Doda and Udhampur, has seen six encounters in the past seven months as forces continue their crackdown on Pakistan-based terrorists hiding in the region.
In earlier incidents this year, several violent encounters were reported from the Chhatru and Dul belts. On September 13, two army personnel, including a JCO, were killed in an encounter in Naidgram. In May and April, separate gunfights in the Singapore and Kishtwar areas resulted in the killing of multiple terrorists.
Security forces remain on high alert as the search operation in Chhatru continues, aiming to eliminate the remaining militants in the region. (Agencies)
